My Display at the Stake Family History Day

 I offered a brief display at the Family History Day in our stake.  

Isaac John Wardle on the left and Mary Ann Ashton as depicted by Julia Rogers.  Isaac said he helped with many burials of handcart pioneers.  This painting depicts just after Betsy passed away and she is with her older sister Sarah.  Father had already left the trek going with the infantry in Laramie.  

Birth Record for Mary Ann Ashton

Among other things this record reports Mary's parents, Sarah Ann Ashton (Barlow) and William Ashton.  It gives her father's career as a spinner.  Her mother signs with an X.  The date of birth is July 1851.  It was registered on the ninth so birth is before the ninth.  I can't make out a day.

Isaac Wardle in the Deseret News

Kristine Frederickson who writes a blog for the Deseret News, included a story about Isaac Wardle who she says is her great-great-great-great grandfather.  She also talks about William Haston Wardle and Mary Ashton.  I would recommend you check out the link because this is very touching.  She talks about Isaac being obedient in hauling Langley across the plains, digging so many graves and chopping down firewood.  His obedience likely saved his life.

Quick Trip to South Jordan Cemetery

I looked at the directory of the cemetery as we were leaving, and there are many more Wardle names, perhaps 100, all related some how.  However these are the names I found quickly with Natalia's help.

Great great great Grandparents John and Mary Wardle.  They crossed the plains in the Robinson Handcart Company of 1860.

Isaac's brother and his wife, Mary Dickson. James also crossed the plains with the Robinson Company.

I think these notes of those of my father, which would also be the source of identification.  I am sure he asked his father James Wilford Wardle Sr.
